St. Jakob Turm Basel

The St. Jakob Tower is located in the immediate eastern vicinity of the St. Jakob Park in the St. Alban district and close to the city border with Muttenz. The Basel-Zurich railway line runs to the north, as does the A2 motorway. The St. Jakob Tower is a high-rise building in Basel, 71 metres high with 17 storeys, which was opened in 2008. The tower is used for offices and 37 high-standard flats.

Project
The scope of work includes the creation of a concept for the assessment of the assumed joint movements in the cross joints, taking into account the temperature differences, the ceiling deflection due to live load and the expected ceiling subsidence. For this purpose, extensive calculations were carried out taking into account extreme temperature differences.

For the retrofitting of partial areas of the façade, cover strips made of object profiles must be planned, manufactured and installed according to measurements. All joints must be closed with tested and approved weather protection agents for a weatherproof façade, which can absorb the extreme joint movements.

The retrofitting measures are accompanied from the creation of the retrofitting concept to the acceptance by the HTA Lucerne.

Due to the demanding architecture, work such as rough cleaning, dismantling, assembly and cleaning work must be carried out from the nacelle and partly also on the hanging rope.

The local conditions require the creation of a comprehensive protection concept for the façade assemblers themselves, as well as for persons in the area of the crane installation. The upgrading work requires the installation of a tower crane with personnel transport. The tower crane has a radius of 52.5 metres and a lifting capacity of 2350 kilograms at full radius. The hook height is 79 metres.
