Extension Museum of Art Basel

The Kunstmuseum Basel is one of the world’s leading art museums. It houses the Basel Public Art Collection, founded in 1661, the oldest public art collection in the world. The need for space was met with an extension on the neighboring Burghof site. The optimal location provided a unique opportunity to realize the necessary spatial expansion in direct connection with the main building. The extension is placed concisely and sensitively at the intersection of St. Alban Graben and Dufourstrasse. The handcrafted facade made of stones in gray tones draws color gradients and is indirectly illuminated in a frieze. Exhibitions are discreetly announced with the latest LED technology.
